UNIT CLERK - PER DIEM

Bargaining Unit:  Non Licensed                             Rate of Pay:  $19.71+DOE
SUMMARY: Performs the receptionist and clerical duties in the Women & Family Center. Functions as primary communication source between nursing unit and all hospital departments using a variety of hospital communication systems, including computer, telephone, intercom and paging systems, and is an active member of the health care team. Reads, interprets and transcribes doctor’s orders, check for changes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:
Prepares charts for admission, transfer and discharge.
Enters and retrieves data from hospital computer system.
Reviews patient charts for orders and documentation.
Practices cost effective use of supplies.
Maintains supplies.  Maintains or facilitates repairs on equipment.
Answers and places phone calls/faxes. 
Relays messages, requests and instructions in a timely and professional manner.
Answers nurse call system when nursing personnel are unavailable.
Schedules patients for special exams, procedures and transportation.
Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
Complies with System policies and procedures.
Other duties as may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS:  Required:  CPR certification is required within six months of employment.  Preferred: None
OTHER EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:  Spanish speaking and writing skills preferred.

Job Description
The Organizational Support Unit (OSU) is comprised of six positions.  The OSU positions handle a variety of administrative support assignments that directly assist the Division of Child Welfare Licensing (DCWL).  Possible duties for these positions include filing; retrieving; inputting data; sorting and distributing mail; copying; reviewing forms for accuracy and required completeness; following up with Child Placing Agencies (CPA) for more information relating to forms submitted or other documentation; verifying information; obtaining more information, and to ensure that all supporting documentation has been received.  While specific positions in the OSU are assigned specific duties, DCWL strives to have each member of the OSU understand as many duties as possible to (1) efficiently backup other members and (2) allow DCWL flexibility in assigning duties to meet operational needs.

This position is open to all applicants but preference may be given to current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) employees and MDHHS employees in layoff status.
